Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic background in organic chemistry
Target skills and knowledge: This course aims introducing the students to macromolecular chemistry, in particular to the synthesis of peptides and the bioconjugation techniques.
Examination methods: Oral
Course unit contents: Outline and summary of topics covered in the course. Physical-chemical properties of amino acids, chemical reactions and synthesis. The structure of peptides and methods of sequencing. Chemical approaches to the synthesis of peptides and proteins: principles of peptide synthesis, synthesis in solution and on solid-phase; chemical ligation of peptide segments. Selected methods of bio-conjugation for the synthesis of small proteins and functionalized nanostructured systems
