Syllabus
Prerequisites: Anatomy and physiology of fish species, notions of microbiology
Target skills and knowledge: Prepare the graduates to work in the field of the fish disease as freelance professional,in private companies and public health and scientific research.
Examination methods: Oral exam
Assessment criteria: Result of the oral examination
Course unit contents: SEMEIOTICS IN FISH PATHOLOGY
Diagnostic methodology in fish pathology:
The environmental survey, anamnestic data, clinical examination, sampling, technique of necropsy, identification of organs, histopathology, laboratory research.
FISH AND SHELLFISH IMMUNOLOGY
Non-specific and specific defense mechanisms, stress and immunosuppression.
Vaccination of farmed fish
INFLAMMATORY AND REPAIRING PROCESSES IN TELEOSTS
The acute, chronic and granulomatous inflammation, healing processes (regeneration and repair), histopathological aspects of acute, granulomatous and chronic inflammation with references to the etiologic agents.
The AETIOLOGY OF FISH DISEASES
The exogenous causes of disease
- Physical agents:
Pathogenic action of the high and low temperatures, suspended material, radiation, electricity, injuries from mechanical causes
- Chemicals:
pH, hardness, salinity, dissolved gases, nitrogen, pollutants.
- Biological agents of disease:
Virus diseases (viral hemorrhagic septicemia, infectious haematopoietic necrosis, infectious pancreatic necrosis,
viral encephalopathy and retinopathy, lymphocystis), bacteria (vibriosis, lactococcosis, flavobacteriosis, furunculosis, winter disease, pasteurellosis), parasites (diseases caused by Dinoflagellata, Ciliophora, Apicomplexa, Microspora, Myxozoa, Monogenea, Digenea, Nematoda, Acanthocephala and Arthropoda), fungi and algae.
