Prerequisites: - General knowledge about the basic cognitive functions (i.e., perception, attention, memory, language, executive functions).
- Basic notions about the main electrophysiological and neuroimaging techniques
- Knowledge of written English
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to provide a thorough knowledge about the theoretical models of developmental neuropsychology as well as about the main methodologies employed in this field. Moreover, the course will deal with the main issues underlying the neurocognitive development of the main functions, including attention, language, memory and executive function. Finally, an overview on the main clinical issues will be provided .
Examination methods: The examination will include written questions (26 multiple choice questions + 1 open-response question) and will last 45 minutes. Foreign students will be given the possibility to take an oral examination in English.
Assessment criteria: The assessment will consider the vote obtained from the written examination plus the evaluation of the presentation/discussions given (or lab sessions attended) by students (optional).
Course unit contents: The course will include the following contents.

- Pre-natal Development: Central Nervous System maturation
- Post-Natal Development: Neuroplasticity
- From adult to developmental model: the concept of neurocostructivism
- Investigation techniques in developmental neuropsychology

- Motor-perceptual development
- Attentional development
- Mnestic development
- Language development
- Executive Function development


- Diagnostic procedures: I and II level tests
- Preterm birth
- Attentional disorders and ADHD
- Specific Learning Disabilities
- Autistic Spectrum Disorders
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: At the end of the course students will gain knowledge about the following contents:

- Developmental Neuropsychology: peculiarities and differences in comparison to related disciplines
- Differences between adult and developmental model.
- Gene-Environment interaction as the main epistemological paradigm in developmental neuropsychology
- Principal cognitive domains’ development: perception, attention, memory, language and executive functions
- Clinical issues: principal disgnostic procedures and tests employed in developmental neuropsychology

The teaching methodology will include:

Frontal theoretical lectures
Classroom exercitations.
Additional notes about suggested reading: - The course’s slides (in Italian, available on moodle platform) will be considered as material to be studied.
