Prerequisites: The student should ideally possess notions of neuroscience and neuropsychology. English knowledge is also recommended.
Target skills and knowledge: The student will acquire knowledge and competences about principles and methodological issues of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) and neuronavigation software.
The student will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge that is important to develop experimental designs involving non-invasive brain stimulation techniques.
Examination methods: The exam will be written, with multiple-choice questions. A minimum of 50% of correct responses is required to pass the exam.
Assessment criteria: Evaluation of student's learning outcome will be based on the understanding of the topics covered by the course in terms of concepts and methods (TMS, tES protocols).
Course unit contents: The course will be subdivided in two main parts.
The first part will focus on TMS and will deal with:
- principles and methodological issues
- TMS paradigms and protocols
- safety issues
- neuronavigation system

The second part will focus on tES and will deal with:
- principles and methodological issues
- tES protocols (e.g., tDCS, tRNS, tACS)
- applications in research and clinical setting
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will comprise both frontal lessons and practical exercitations.
In light of the nature of the course, students are strongly invited to attend to the lectures.
Additional notes about suggested reading: There is no textbook for this course. Study material comprises the slides and the scientific papers that will be provided during lessons (which will available in the Moodle course website).
