Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic cognitive functions (attention, perception, memory, learning and language), main paradigms and tasks to measure the basic cognitive functions and main neuroanatomical and psychobiological bases of basic cognitive functions
Target skills and knowledge: The student should be able to understand:
-the tortuous relationship between genes to behavior and the role of genes and environment in determining the probability of a neurodevelopmental disorders;
-the differences between cognitive neuropsychology and interactive specialization;
-the sensory perceptual and attentional disorders in developmental dyslexia, dyscalculia, specific language impairment and autism spectrum disorder;
-the crucial role of a coordinated work across the different professional figures in developmental neuropsychology.
-the neuropsychological rehabilitation of specific learning and language and autism.
-the prevention programs of specific learning disabilities, language disorders and autism spectrum disorder
Examination methods: Written Exam (31 questions with multiple choice, one correct = one point, duration 45 minutes) with oral integration (optional) the same day if written exam is correct.
Assessment criteria: The assessment of the preparation of the student will be based on an understanding of the neuropsychological arguments, on the acquisition of neurodevelopmental concepts and psychobiological methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous and aware way.
Course unit contents: -Direction for the neuropsychology of the development;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of dyslexia;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of specific language impairment;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of developmental dyscalculia;
-Major neurocognitive hypothesis of autism spectrum disorders;
-Major techniques for the rehabilitation of neurodevelopmental disorders;
-Neuropsychological rehabilitation;
-Rehabilitation through the use of video games;
-Rehabilitation through the use of perceptual learning;
-Rehabilitation through the use of neurostimulation;
-Prevention programs for neurodevelopmental disorders;
-The role of the different professional figures in the developmental neuropsychology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures, laboratory experience and mini lectures in which small groups of students discuss relevant scientific paper of developmental neuropsychology.
