Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of the basic concepts of social psychology and the main research methods used in psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to introduce students to the multi- and inter-cultural perspectives, intercultural communication and intercultural mediation. A large part of the course will be dedicated to field research methodologies.
At the end of the course students will be able to conduct action-research activities in intercultural contexts. In this way, students will acquire skills in mediation practices with territorial institutions, such as associations, CAS, services for the protection of asylum seekers and migrant users.
Examination methods: The exam is written with open questions.
Assessment criteria: The assessment will be based on understanding of the arguments, on the acquisition of concepts and methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous way.
Course unit contents: The historical foundations of the intercultural approach: cultural psychology.
Interculture and Multiculture
Artifacts, Mediation and Agency
Critical discourse analysis
Language, power and reflexivity.
Tools and methods for intercultural research.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Theoretical topics are treated in their general aspects. The student must then investigate the topics covered in class using textbooks and suggested readings. The hours of training in the classroom are devoted to, practical research and experiments. Students are invited to participate in an active and critical to the various training courses.
