Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Basic knowledge of chemistry and physics.
Basic knowledge of toxicology and hygiene
Target skills and knowledge: OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE: To acquire the fundamentals of occupational medicine in relation to the potential chemical, physical and biological risks. To acquire the fundamentals of risk assessment.

APPLIED BIOLOGY: The essential theoretical knowledge of Biology adapted to the training of master's degree in Health Care Prevention Sciences. Taxonomy Living realms. History of parasitology. Symbiosis: commensalism, mutual symbiosis, parasitism (definition of types)

HEALTH PROMOTION: The prevention of major diseases related to lifestyle (metabolic, nutritional, cardiovascular, related to alcohol abuse, smoking). Prevention of sarcopenia in the elderly. Prevention of the most common diseases related to the school environment.
Examination methods: OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE: Written, with questions regarding the topics of the course.

APPLIED BIOLOGY: Written test at multiple choise.

HEALTH PROMOTION: The assessment will be by means of written quizzes, oral supplementation with a student's request. The oral test will be for off-course. The quizzes (about 15) will be mainly multiple choice with a limited number of open questions. The oral examination will consist of 2-3 questions asked by the examiner and in a chosen subject proposed by the student.
Assessment criteria: Depending on the accuracy and completeness of the answers.
Course unit contents: Occupational Medicine:
Introduction to the course, Legislation on safety, The survey of industrial hygiene, sampling methodologies, Limits, Principles of industrial toxicology, solvents, metals, toxic effects of the main substances used in industry, biological monitoring, powders, Risks arising from physical agents, Ergonomy, Video Display Units, Manual handling of loads, Noise, vibration, microclimate, electromagnetic and corpuscular radiation, production cycles.

Applied Biology:
Taxonomy, Living realms, History of parasitology, Symbiosis: commensalism, mutual symbiosis, parasitism (definition of typologies). Pathogenic action of parasites. Zoonoses, classifications, transmissions. Computer system of infectious diseases, ECDC. Diagnostic techniques Protozoa, gen. Leishmania, gen. Trypanosoma, gen. Giardia, sp. Toxoplasma gondii, gen. Plasmodium, geographical distribution, life cycle, pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy Trematodes, nematodes, cestodes, sp. Schistosoma mansoni, sp. Fashiola hepatica, sp. Diphyllobotrium latum, spp Echinococcus, sp Anisakis anisakis, sp.T. solium, sp. T. saginata geographical distribution, life cycle, pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy.

Health promotion:
Health status and body composition. Methods of assessing body composition. Energy expenditure and signs of calorimetry. The main nutrients: origin, function, functional characteristics, needs. Sarcopenia of the elderly: pathophysiology and prevention. Prevention of disability in the elderly. The Metabolic Syndrome: Classification, pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention. Cardiovascular disease: classification, pathophysiology, epidemiology, prevention. Principles of diet therapy. Beneficial effects of exercise. Physical activity patterns. The diseases from alcohol abuse: introduction to metabolism, metabolic effects and organ level, the cognitive and behavioral effects, prevention of risk factors. Prevention of the most common diseases related to the school environment.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE Lectures with power point projections. Self-learning through the development of themes related to the course

APPLIED BIOLOGY animations will be used on biological phenomena discussed in class and discussed the issues raised.

HEALTH PROMOTION: Presentation of the matter by projection patterns in files Power Point; integration of visual material with comments and links; questions and interactive stimuli. Preparation (optional) of a term paper as an integration exam.
