Syllabus
Prerequisites: Telecommunications' course; knowledge of the basic principles of telecommunications networks, especially the Internet protocols
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the concept of the Internet of things and ability to apply the paradigm of the Internet of things in real problems of telecommunications.

Knowledge of the concept of Smart City and ability to apply the paradigm of Smart City to real problems of city management, with particular reference to the aspects of ICT
Examination methods: Written exam or project work integrated by an oral exam. In case of project work integrated by an oral exam, the project work will be focused on one topic while the oral exam is intended to assess the knowledge of the student on the whole program of the course.
Assessment criteria: Checking the knowledge of the topics of the course. Ability to apply the concepts to practical cases.
In the case of the project work: novelty, ability to work autonomously, capability of writing a report on the project work, well organized and informative.

- Different approaches: Long range cellular (M2M), long range unlinecsed frequencies, short range, RFID
- Key scientific topics: the physical layer, addressing and routing, security
- Standardisation bodies and consortiums: ETSI M2M, IETF, IEEE, OMA lightweigth M2M, Thread, OIC, etc. Allseen Alliance
