Prerequisites:

Linguistic abilities in German language at the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
Competences in the production and comprehension of written and oral texts in German at B1 level.
Ability to formulate metalinguistic reflections on the fundamental structures of standard German language, also by establishing comparisons with Italian morphology and syntax. |
Examination methods:
|
The exam consists of two written tests and an oral examination.
The first written exam includes a grammar test (30 minutes) and the translation of an Italian text into German (90 minutes). The second written exam includes a test aimed at evaluating competences in reading comprehension and written production (90 minutes), as well as a dictation exercise (20 minutes).
Both written exams need to be passed in order for the student to be admitted to the oral exam (10 minutes). The oral exam will assess the acquisition of theoretical knowledge as well as the ability to read and translate a short passage from German into Italian. |

The exam will evaluate linguistic abilities in German language at B1 level, as well as translation competences and the ability to engage in metalinguistic reflections. |
Course unit contents:

The part of the course taught by language experts is aimed at developing the students’ written and oral competence in German language at B1 level.
The module held by the convenor will explore questions related to textual linguistics, with special attention being paid to the peculiarities of literary texts. A further focus will be on reading comprehension and translation strategies.
The students will also be required to read Patrick Süskind’s novella “Die Taube” in preparation for the oral exam. |
