Prerequisites:
|
Fundamentals of physics, chemistry, biology and agronomy |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
This course has been designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of processes affecting biogeochemical cycles and pollutant transport, and strategies to mitigate agriculture water, air and soil pollution |
Examination methods:
|
The final exam will consist of a written part and of an oral part, to be held on the same date. The exam will include topics from the textbook, lectures slides and laboratory experiences. Students will be required to write a report on a topic agreed in consultation with the instructor |
Assessment criteria:
|
The evaluation will be based on the understanding of the topics, on the acquisition of concepts and methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous way |
Course unit contents:
|
) Atmosphere and hydrosphere: the agricultural non-point source pollution (0.5 ECTS)
2) The soil ecosystem and its properties (0.5 ECTS)
3) Soil water content and potential, retention characteristics (1 ECTS)
4) Flow of water in saturated soils and unsaturated saturated (2 ECTS)
5) Solute transport in the soil and water erosion (1 ECTS)
6) Soil Nitrogen and environmental quality (0.5 ECTS)
7) Soil Phosphorus and environmental quality (0.5 ECTS)
8) Sustainable Agricultural Practices to mitigate agriculture water, soil and air pollution (2 ECTS) |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
|
Teaching is based on lectures, working groups, case studies and on class exercises involving students individually.
Hands on or laboratory activities are also scheduled |
