Target skills and knowledge: The course aims at giving students an understanding on the main topics related to integrated watershed management in mountainous and floodplains environment, focusing on anthropogenic landscapes. Students will learn about the effects related to climate and land use change in highly populated regions (some case studies in the world will be considered). Students will learn how manage the main environmental data in a GIS environment, focusing on those data related to hydro-geomorphological processes (e.g. erosion, landslides, rainfall-runoff, floods). Risk perception and social vulnerability will be also considered in the analysis. This is in support to strategies and decisions for land use planning and hydrogeological risk assessment and management.
Examination methods: Drafting of a technical report that must include the main topics illustrated during the labs.
Oral examination about the main concepts and the report as well.
Assessment criteria: Capability of the candidate to discuss and present a case study, raising problems and highlighting likely solutions.
