Prerequisites: To adequately follow the lessons, it is important to have knowledge on plant biology, pedology and soil chemistry, and Agronomy
Target skills and knowledge: The main objective of the course is to provide information on different protection strategies of crops against adverse climatic conditions or to control/manipulate plant growth for production/scheduling purposes. Of some crops, specific information on crop production will be provided.
Examination methods: The test will be written and oral
Assessment criteria: Student's evaluation will be done on the base of both learnt theory and ability of application of their knowledge to practical and real cases.
Course unit contents: 1CFU: Climatic parapeters and their influence on plant production, Methods of defence against: frost, wind.
2CFU: Methods of defence against, Hail, light. Mulch. Tunnels and High -tunnels.
3CFU: Greenhouses: constructive characteristics, roofing materials, climatization and general aspects of cultivation technique for flower and vegetable species.
4CFU: Soilless culture: systems, substrates; nutrient solutions, other coltural aspects.
5 and 6 CFU Botanical classification, morphology, biology and physiology, adaptation needs and environmental requirements, cultivation practices, diseases, harvest, of the most representative species.
