Prerequisites: The student should be able to apply the knowledge related to the course of Wood Science and Technology.
Target skills and knowledge: Upon passing the exam, the student will acquire the technical, technological, and terminological knowledge necessary to deal with a possible job in the wood products supply chain.
Assessment criteria: Assessment for this class is carried out up on student knowledge of lecture content, critical thinking skills, technical skills, and communication skills.
Course unit contents: - Sawnwood production, characteristics of trunk sawing machines and organization of the sawmill production process;
- thermal treatments and wood drying: steaming, thermal treatments at high temperature, artificial drying;
- wood classification: aesthetic lumber classification, classification according to mechanical strength of timber for structural use;
- veneer production;
- production of solid wood panels: multilayer panels, particle and flake panels, fiber boards, engineered wood, board panels, Xlam;
- products and technologies for wood finishing and protection;
- wood products and technologies for gluing wood;
- industrial woodworking;
- technical standards, CE marking of construction products.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is conducted through lectures in the classroom during which slides will be projected and then made ‚Äč‚Äčavailable to the students.
