Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in livestock science
Target skills and knowledge: The student will learn the multifunction services produced by livestock chains in mountain areas. He will be able to produce critical analyses of the strategies aimed at valorize the mountain livestock sector.
Examination methods: oral
Assessment criteria: Journal club and discussion groups are organized during the semester,and the level of participation is considered for the final evaluation (1/3 of final evaluation). A mini-review on a specific topic must be prepared by the students not attending the lectures. Oral exam verifies the learning outcomes (2/3 of final evaluation).
Course unit contents: Overview and classification of livestock chains, focused on mountain areas (1 ECTS)
Dairy chains in mountain areas: quality of milk and cheeses (1 ECTS)
Beef chains and small ruminant productions in mountain areas (1 ECTS)
Multifunctional services of livestock chains in mountain areas (1 ECTS)
Strategies for the valorization of livestock chains in mountainous areas (PDO, Organic, Slow food...) (1 ECTS)
Journal club: presentation and discussion of scientific papers (1 ECTS)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures,presentation and discussion of scientific papers , technical excursions
