Syllabus
Prerequisites: knowledge of the most important microbs and of their pathogenetic amechanisms
Target skills and knowledge: - The concept of diseases at population levels. Scientific tool of knowledge;
- To learn the principles of epidemiology and its methods;
- To get acquainted with the development of public health assistance within the the framework of the National Health Services. To understand the structural and organisational aspects of public health assistance with a particular interest in oral health;
- To develop updated knowledge of the major risk factors for health both for transmissible and non transmissible diseases with the main goal of prevention and evaluation of the impact on public health
Assessment criteria: Evaluation on the acquired knowledge on topics presented and discussed during lectures
Course unit contents: Principles of public health in relation to hygiene,preventive medicine and organised health services. Evaluation of their impact on the population in term of prevention and health promotion. Familiarity with the epidemiological principles and methods required for drawing a correct health profile at population level.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Front lessons and laboratories/seminars on problems in epidemiological research and sterilisation tests
