Syllabus
Prerequisites: A good knowledge of anatomy and physiology of respiratory system is required.
Target skills and knowledge: Aim of the course is to provide students with clinical and instrumental knowledge, necessary to identify surgical diseases of the chest and to set up a correct and prompt diagnostic and therapeutic process.
Examination methods: An oral examination will be scheduled, regarding the treated topics.
Assessment criteria: Criteria assessment will be:
- knowledge of the treated topics;
- competency to critically apply this knowledge
Course unit contents: Topics of the course will be the surgical diseases of the chest, except for cardiac and esophageal diseases.

- Pulmonary neoplasms: TNM staging, surgical management indications and contraindications;
- Benign and malignant pleural diseases;
- Benign and malignant mediastinal diseases;
- Benign and malignant chest wall diseases;
- Thoracic traumatology;
- Lung transplantation
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: During lectures, students will always be involved in active discussions.
If possible, practical lessons in small groups will be organized.
