Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Specific characteristics of the Module

Course unit contents: Reactions in water solution: acid-base, complexation, precipitation, and redox. General treatment for the calculation of the concentration of different substances in solution at equilibrium taking care of competitive reactions. Reasonable approximations: how to apply and verify them.
Titrations: acid-base, complex formation, precipitation and redox. Titration curves. How to find the equivalent point through visual methods (colorimetric dyes) and instrumental methods (electrodes). Potentiometry. Glass electrode, ion-selective electrode, electrode of first and second kind, red-ox electrodes. First notions on instrumental analytical techniques.Spectrophotometrical method, interaction between electromagnetic radiation and matter, electromagnetic radiation absorption and emission of atoms and molecules
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures last for 6 CFU (48 hours) and they are taught in class. The teaching will concern both theoretical explanations and exercise resolution. The exercises will be done on the blackboard or through an electronic tablet, a copy of the resolution is usually loaded in the moodle too.
The lectures will be resumed in powerpoint slides made available to the students by the teachers. They can be used as the basic textbook to prepare the exam.

Analytical chemistry books available in the library can be used to integrate the slides.
