Syllabus
Prerequisites: It is necessary to have completed and registered the exam of Spanish Language 1.
Target skills and knowledge: The objective of the course is to bring students to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The course aims at consolidating theoretical knowledge addressed to the acquisition of an adequate metalinguistic competence for the description of syntactic and lexicological aspects, presented in a comparative and contrasting approach with Italian.
Examination methods: The exam consists of three tests: two written tests (one theoretical and one practical) and an oral theoretical test.
1. The first written test consists of exercises aimed at the recognition and application of the notions studied during the course.
2. The written practical test concerns the activity carried out by CEL and consists of exercises to assess the acquisition of good written competence at level B2. This test is not preliminary to the theoretical test.
3. The oral test consists of the discussion of language issues presented during the course.
Assessment criteria: The assessment will be based on the verification of the comprehension of the proposed topics, of an adequate use of the specific language and on the capacity to applicate the theoretical notions studied during the course.
Course unit contents: frontal lessons focused on the description of some central themes of a syntactic, lexicological and discursive nature presented according to a contrasting perspective with Italian.
The following issues will be addressed with particular attention:
Theme 1: Sintaxis
Las perífrasis verbales: clasificación y uso
La oposición entre ser y estar
Las oraciones pasivas, medias e impersonales
Los verbos de cambio

Theme 2: Léxico y discurso
La formación de palabras en español
The phraseology
Los marcadores del discurso

The practical module carried out by CEL in the first and second semesters is aimed at acquiring the main syntactic structures (subordination, causal, conditional, concessive and consecutive structures) of the Spanish language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The teaching method includes frontal lessons that will focus on the theoretical exposition of the themes of the program. Self-assessment activities and exercises are also planned.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Notes of the lessons and obligatory readings will be indicated in the bibliography at the beginning of the course. Non attending students are invited to contact the teacher in order to define the study programme and the compulsory bibliography.
