Syllabus
Prerequisites: Themes and authors introduced in the "Sociology" class
Target skills and knowledge: Students will learn how to use the so-called "sociological imagination" in order to critically analyze contemporary social phenomena and problems
Examination methods: Written, in-class multiple exams. Rules and examples are to be found on the Moodle platform
Assessment criteria: Rules and evaluation criteria are to ne found on the Moodle platform
Course unit contents: Using some pieces of empirical and historical research taken from a wide, interdisciplinary repertoire (sociology, cultural anthropology, social history, social psychology), students will learn to interpret the behavior of social actors by framing it within interaction contexts, collective membership and social institutions; they will learn to reconstruct and interpret symbolic pattern and their use by social actors; they will learn how to use different theoretical schemes in order to describe and explain social phenomena from different points of view.
1) Introducing the sociological imagination
2) Creating and destroying social order
3) Observing and explaining the social world
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures, practical exercises, and discussions
