Syllabus
Prerequisites: English Language at a B1 level(cfr QCER B1)

Requirements: the TAL-B1 test is not requested in order to take this exam.
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of this course is to develop the student's language competency especially in terms of reading, understanding, explaning and engaging in a discussion of different kinds of texts. Students are asked to analyze, discuss and summarize different kinds of texts to prove they have reached the B1+ (QCER) level of English.
Examination methods: The exam is written and lasts 45 minutes. It includes: reading and listening comprehension , grammar-lexical exercises and a written production.

Students cannot use any bilingual or monolingual dictionaries during the exam.

The structure of the exam also applies to students from the previous academic years: they need to consult the moodle page of the Academic Year 2017-18 to prepare for the exam.
Assessment criteria: Grammar correctness and in the use of the language at an academic level
Wide range of structures and lexis
Awareness of the topics examined and socio-cultural and intercultural current events in English done during the course.
Course unit contents: The course aims to develop the following knowledge and competencies, both in writing and speaking:
- language (study of more complex syntax structures and lexis)
- intercultural competencies
- socio-cultural competencies
- reading comprehension and oral discussions
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists in lectures, group discussions, individual and/or group work, reading/listening and commenting texts both in class and on Moodle. For this reason students should check the Moodle page of the course quite frequently and do the exercises they find.
Additional notes about suggested reading: All the students must have a learner's advanced dictionary.
