Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of SAS software
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims at obtaining the two macro-objectives described below.

1. Macro-objective "ANALYSIS":
- To choose, according to the research hypotheses and the nature of the data, the methods of statistical analysis of bivariate relations between social and economic phenomena.
- Know how to use statistical analysis techniques correctly using general computer programs (SAS).
- Knowing how to present and interpret tables and graphs that reproduce the results of statistical analysis of relationships.
- Being able to describe in an essential and precise way the results of the statistical elaborations and the interpretations of the analyzes carried out.

2. "EVALUATION" macro-objective:
- Know how to set up a project to evaluate a process or a service
- Knowing how to build a system of indicators that are functional for the design and evaluation of a process or service
- Knowing how to present an evaluation system in an essential and precise way
Examination methods: The oral and practical exam are scheduled .
For the practical part, students will have to present a brief report concerning the analysis with the methods presented in the course on a topic chosen by the same student, in agreement with the teacher.

The written text can be delivered even after the oral examination.
Assessment criteria: The final grade is given by the sum of the grade obtained at the exam (max: 28/30) and the one obtained on the written report (max: 4/30). Obtaining the highest evaluation in the two tests gives the right to praise.
Course unit contents: The course can be divided into three modules:
- a module including lectures on the choice of the statistical method of data analysis,
- a second module of lectures on the definition and construction of social indicators for service evaluation purposes,
- another module in the computer room to carry out exercises using the SAS for data analysis.

Contents in detail:
Dependency analysis
- Symmetrical and asymmetric dependence between social phenomena.
- Criteria for the choice of methods of bivariate statistical analysis of the relationships between variables.
- Measurement of the dependence between variables measured on each type of scale.
- Analysis of the concordance between independent observers of the same phenomenon.
- Investigation drawings and causal relationships.
 Risk indicators and risk analysis of social and health phenomena.
- Evaluation
- Concepts and phases of evaluation: from the definition of resources to that of the product
- Evaluation criteria: effectiveness, efficiency, fairness, appropriateness, accessibility
- Customer satisfaction
The statistical indicator as an evaluation tool: types of indicators appropriate for each of the evaluation criteria
- Construction of indicator systems
- Measurement of complex concepts: criteria and methods for the construction of composite indicators.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will be conducted both through lectures and through the application in the computer room of the SAS software for data analysis with statistical method.
The exam consists of an oral part, as regards the syllabus, and written report, to be developed in pairs with another student, concerning the statistical analysis of a set of data. The topic of the practical part must be agreed with the teacher.
