Target skills and knowledge: 1. Learn the functional aspects of vision
2. Learn to use psychophysical methods to measure the integrity of central visual processess
3. Learn the relationship between evaluation and treatment of central visual disorders
4. Learn to appreciate the utility of appropriate psychoophysical evaluation
Examination methods: Written exam
Assessment criteria: The evaluation aims at verify comparatively the achievement of theory and methods and the ability to use these skills in the clinical setting
Course unit contents: An introductory part of the course consists in the presentation of the main psychophysical methods and the Theory of Signal Detection. Then students will then learn the anatomy and physiology of the neural mechanisms, both cortical and subcortical, underlying visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, crowding, adaptation and visual attention. A main topic in the course is the application of the psychophysical methods to evaluate and treat neurovisual deficits in subjects with visual deseases
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists of frontal lessons and lab classes
