Target skills and knowledge: Industrial Hygiene
The student must acquire the knowledge necessary to understand the hazards(and related risks) present in the workplace (chemical, physical and biological) including research laboratories. It is instructed on the methods for an assessment of both environmental and biological exposure.

Economics and Work Organization
The module aims to provide a theoretical and practical overview of the business economy of an industrial company. Particular attention is given to the general accounting, the construction of the financial statements and its technical analysis. After following the course the student will be able to: • read and interpret the financial statements of an enterprise according to current legislation; • carry out a balance sheet analysis using indicators.
Examination methods: Industrial Hygiene Test:
the test is written by 33 questions with four possible answers for each question whose only correct one.

Economics and Work Organization test:
Written test with free-answer questions, multiple-choice questions and numerical exercises. Optional oral exam after passing the written exam. All topics discussed in class are examined.
Assessment criteria: Industrial Hygiene
On the basis of the knowledge acquired and the ability to understand the information provided during the course, the student must point out that he understands the purposes of industrial hygiene and what significance it has in the light of current regulations.

The assessment of the student's preparation is based on: • understanding of the topics covered • on the acquisition of the concepts and methodologies proposed • on the ability to apply them autonomously and consciously.
Course unit contents: Industrial hygiene
Legislation existing in the field of work hygiene, accidents and occupational diseases; technical and health structures responsible for checks and protection. The assessment of industrial hygiene: inspection and preliminary investigation; technical-toxicological data sheets; strategies and planning of environmental investigations. Risk assessment in the workplace: meaning and procedures. Sampling techniques of powders, fibers, fumes, gases and vapors: instantaneous, sequential, integrated and continuous sampling; area and personal sampling, active and passive. Methods of measurement and evaluation of physical pollutants: noise, vibrations, microclimate, illumination, ionizing and non-ionizing radiations. Elements of ergonomics. Limits: TLVs for chemicals (TLV-TWA, TLV-STEL, TLV-C); TLV for mixtures and carcinogens; the limits for physical pollutants. Method of definition and meaning of limit values ​​and reference values. Law limits in Italy. Safety in the workplace: notions of accident prevention. Pollution of confined environments and the living environment. Primary and secondary prevention techniques. Personal protective equipment. Signs of industrial toxicology: absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of toxic substances. Biological monitoring: dose and effect indicators.

Frontal lessons with discussion of case studies; the learning activities are related to what has been explained in the awareness that an adequate learning of the subject is a good way for interesting professional opportunities.
