Syllabus
Prerequisites: Previous knowledge from coursework in Dynamic Psychology is required
Target skills and knowledge: After passing the final exam, students will understand both the theoretical and practical basis of different kinds of clinical interviews.
Students will have a familiarity with the different historical moments of the evolution of techniques in psychodynamic interviewing.
Finally students will be able to integrate theoretical aspects of the main psychodynamic models and their clinical application.
Examination methods: The final exam consists of a written test, which includes three semi-open questions in one hour time. Only after passing the written test can students be admitted to the oral exam (obligatory). Both tests will cover the entere program. It is possible to take the oral exam in English.
Assessment criteria: For the evaluation students are required to demonstrate their knowledge, their level of comprehension and their capacity to integrate the concepts developed during the course.
Course unit contents: The course involves developing in two main areas: the first aims to explain the general concepts and the tecniques needed to conduct a psychological interview in its different applications (i.e. diagnostic, consultation and psychotherapy).
The second aims to propose the analysis of the tecnique in clinical interview in order to build a relationship. Different psychodynamic models will be presented with the aim to describe the constructs that have a role in the development of the relationship; some case studies will be presented.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: During the lessons we will study theoretical and practical topics in great depth; particular attention will be paid to students' active participation in the evaluation of clinical materials. During the course participation through verbal interaction and sharing will be encouraged.
