Syllabus
Prerequisites: No previous competence in the field of psychology is required; students must be prepared at a general high school level
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to give students an overview of what cognitive science has discovered over the past century. The course is mainly centered on cognitive processing with a special focus on the experimental method in the different psychological domains. At the end of the course students will gain an understanding of the principal issues encountered in the study of the mind and the brain, and will be encouraged to adopt a critical perspective on the theoretical approaches proposed to explain empirical results.
Examination methods: The exam consist of 80 multiple choice question in 1 hour of time. For students regularly attending classes there will be the opportunity to get partial exams during the course.
Assessment criteria: This is based on the rate of correct responses. To pass the exam students must correctly respond to the 55% of questions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Whenever possible, theoretical lessons are paired with more practical classes where examples of every day applications are given. Students can actively took part to some experiments and to visit some laboratories. For this students can enroll for experiments through the following link: http://colab.psy.unipd.it/
Additional notes about suggested reading: After each class the slides used are given to students. Some lessons will be center also on some chapters of the book Dell'Acqua, R. e Turatto, M. (2006). Attenzione e percezione. I processi cognitivi tra psicologia e neuroscienze. Carocci: Roma. Students attending classes will be tested also on these in the partial exams.
