Syllabus
Prerequisites: basic biology
Target skills and knowledge: Biological basis of behavior.

The main aim of the course is to provide students with the neurobiological basis of cognitive development (typical and atypical) characterized by neural plasticity.
Examination methods: Written exam: 31 multiple-choice questions
Assessment criteria: knowledge of selected topics of psychobiology
Course unit contents: anatomy of the nervous system
nerve conduction and synaptic transmission
methods of study in psychobiology
brain injury in humans and animal models
the visual system
mechanisms of perception, consciousness and attention
the sensorimotor system
hormones and sexual behavior
addiction to drugs and brain reward circuits
learning, memory and amnesia
nervous system development and neural plasticity
hemispheric lateralization, language and split-brain
psychobiology of emotions and stress
psychobiology of psychiatric disorders
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: lectures and class discussions.
Whenever possible experiments will be conducted or collected questionnaires in class and made tutorials on how to structure and conduct scientific research.
