Prerequisites:
|
Good notions concerning the basics of genetics laws is required. The biology manual mentioned below can be of help in filling possible gaps of knowledge on this topic. |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
Students are supposed to acquire the knowledge of how genetics translate into normal and pathological behavior. |
Examination methods:
|
The final examination is written and made up of 31 multiple choice questions.
During the course, as a closing step for each of the topics, possible questions will be presented and discussed, in order to familiarize with the examination procedure. |
Assessment criteria:
|
Students' assessment will focus on the mastery of key concepts of the discipline and specific terminology. |
Course unit contents:
|
-Basic concepts of genetics and heritability;
-How the interplay between genes and environment can influence behavior;
- Behavioral implications of some of the main genetic and chromosomal disorders (eg: Down syndrome, Williams syndrome, fragile X)
- Genetical underpinnings of some behavioral traits in the normal and pathological field. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
|
Oral lectures. Classes will cover the topics in their general aspects. Students are expected to further explore the themes by using the textbook and the supporting material provided by the lecturer. |
Additional notes about suggested reading:
