Target skills and knowledge:

The course aims to provide the knowledge to understand companies from an organisational point of view with a focus on organisations’ design and operating systems.
Moreover, the course aims to deepen the role and recognition of people in organisations.
Therefore the goal of the course is to provide the skills to recognise different organisation types in different contexts. |
Examination methods:
|
The examination is written and it is divided in open and closed questions. The maximum duration of the exam is 90 minutes.
The examination consists of 2 parts:
- 4 questions with open answers connected to the interpretation of the subjects provided during the course. Each question is divided in two parts: the evaluation considers if each part is correct and complete.
Through this part you can reach up to 20 points.
- 20 questions with closed answers (multiple choice) directly related to the content of the textbooks; each question has 3 possible answers (just one is correct)
Through this part you can reach up to 10 points.
In the overall evaluation the active partecipation in the course is also considered. |
Assessment criteria:

The evaluation considers the understanding of the course arguments with particular attention to the correct use of organisational language and business organisation concepts comprehension.

Course unit contents:

The 1° part explores the three main “dimensions” of organisations (stakeholders, the different environments in which the organisation is involved and stakeholder relations).
In the 2° part the different types of organisations and microstructures’ design are deepened.
The 3° part presents some human resources management aspects related to the organisational issue.
Therefore during the course the following subjects are deepened:
1. Organisational issue’s origin
2. Organisation stakeholders
3. The organisation and its environments (with an in-depth analysis about the labour market and the recruiting process)
4. Organisation relationships (with an in-depth analysis about the psychological contract)
5. Organisation design
6. Simple organisations
7. Hierarchical – functional organisations
8. Divisional organisations
9. Inter-organisation relationships
10.How to organise people’s tasks and manage their performance
11.How to evaluate and recognise people |

The course is entirely online with video-lessons and other supporting material: slides, case studies, articles, links to the textbooks (for examination exercises).
Forum will be activated in order to encourage student participation, share their experiences and facilitate contents’ learning. |
