Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in computer use. Skills required to use Moodle.
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide an introductory overview on the anthropological studies of cultures. Fundamental themes are: relationship between the main anthropological theories and the cultural systems, entities acting cultures (individual, group, society), culture, symbol, meanings, cultural communication, contemporary anthropology,funeral systems.
Examination methods: Written examination with 3 open questions;one question for each book scheduled for the exam.
The exam lasts one hour
Assessment criteria: will evaluate the understanding and knowledge of the books provided for the examination
Course unit contents: -Anthropological point of view- Agency and Culture- Analysis of the development of hegemonic structures- Symbols, meanings, cultures;- Development of the anthropological studies- Cultural communication-Identity and Alterity- Interethnicity and multiculturalism- Cultural negotiation- Funeral systems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will have a weekly structure. Every week new video lessons will be posted on moodle, with powerpoints of the discussed topics.
