Syllabus

Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Prerequisites: Basic conceptual capabilities and knowledge typically shown by students with their High School certificate.
Target skills and knowledge: The overall aim of the course in General Psychology is to provide a critical understanding of theories and methods in the core areas of Psychology. The Course includes two modules. The aim of Module A is to develop conceptual and analytical skills relevant to the understanding of topics that will be presented in Module B, that will cover the various areas of General Psychology.
Examination methods: The exam consists in a computer-administered test lasting about 1 hour and including both multiple-choice and open questions. In order to participate in the exams students need to book their participation via the online platform "Uniweb" from 10 to 4 days prior to the date of the exam. There will be only one booking list for both modules.
The two modules are closely integrated. Lessons, exam preparation and scoring, as well as exam sessions are arranged in collaboration by the two professors.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the preparation of the student will take into account the acquisition of concepts relating to the different topics and the level of learning reached.

Course unit contents: - Introduction to psychology.
- The concept of science.
- Scientific research in psychology.
- Methods and errors in scientific research.
- Measurement in psychology.
- Types of literature.
- Learning.
- Attention.
- Executive Function.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Teaching will include both face to face lessons and more interactive aspects such as exercises through the MOODLE platform or experiments related to the course topics to be discussed in class.
Additional notes about suggested reading: - Slides of the course and 1 chapter about the topic of "Attention" will beprovided through the school's WEBsite.
