Prerequisites: Basic skills on memory and learning acquired,for example, from a course of General Psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge and skills to acquire
- knowing the basic principles, the main theoretical models and methods of the studies in the field of memory and learning;
- knowing the main tests for the assessment of memory and the strategies for its development;
- interpreting the functioning of memory in daily life with reference to the theoretical models;
- applying knowledge to specific areas and contexts: witness, amnesia, memory training.
Examination methods: The verification of learning takes place through the final exam, which ascertains the acquisition of the knowledge and skills expected.The final exam consists of a written test that includes 35 multiple choice questions. The written test has a total duration of 30 minutes. The final grade is calculated as the sum of the scores obtained for each question (score 1 for correct and -0,5 for wrong answers, respectively).
Assessment criteria: The assessment of students' skills is based on an understanding of the main theories, methodologies, and instruments(tests and questionnaires)adopted in the studies of learning and memory and in their applications.
Course unit contents: Memory, how to improve it; recollection and forgetting; amnesia; memory in children; theories and applications of autobiographical memory and witness. Learning.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will involve a combination of lectures, discussions of scientific papers, demonstrations, and exercises. In-class exercises will expand and deepen course topics, and will include audio-visual projections, multimedia materials, exam simulation, use of tests for the assessment of memory.
