Prerequisites:
|
Familiarity with basic knowledge obtained in previous courses on:
- anatomy and physiology of the sensory systems;
- mathematic;
- statistics. |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
1. Learn functional aspects of sensory processing.
2. Utilize the psychophysical methods to measure the integrity of sensory processes.
3. Learn the relationship between assessment and treatment of sensory deficit.
4. Learn to appreciate the importance of appropriate psychophysical measurements. |
Examination methods:
|
Written, open question (15-20 with short answer) and exercices(about ten) choosen among the pool that students will practice in class. |
Assessment criteria:
|
The evaluation aims at testing comparatively whether the student has acquired theory and methods. |
Course unit contents:
|
An introductory part of the course consists in the presentation of the main psychophysical methods and the Theory of Signal Detection. Then students will then learn the anatomy and physiology of the neural mechanisms, both cortical and subcortical, underlying spatial and color vision, binocular vision, vision of movement and visual attention. The final part of the course will consist of a brief presentation of the main mechanisms of encoding sensory information with other modalities. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
|
The course consists of frontal lessons and practical exercises. |
Additional notes about suggested reading:
|
The slides of the lectures will be available to students. |
