Syllabus
Prerequisites: Any prerequisites are required
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the theory of knowledge and scientific rationality in modern and contemporary philosophy; capacity for critical analysis; methodological maturity which enables the student to use his own competence in an autonomous way.
Examination methods: Final assessment will be conducted as a written exam with open questions.
Assessment criteria: The knowledge of the topics and the capacity of critical analysis will be evaluated.
Course unit contents: The course examines the fundamental aspects of the theory of knowledge in modern and contemporary thought. Since the founding of the new model of scientific rationality in the modern age, will be indicated the main lines of the debate on the problem of knowledge and the development of science. In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
R. Descartes and the foundation of modern rationality; D. Hume: the cognitive value of the idea of causality; I. Kant: the clarification of the nature of scientific knowledge; K. Popper: rationality and induction; TS Kuhn: the historical development of the sciences.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will be held in 42 hours of frontal lessons; the topics indicated in the program will be presented and discussed.
