Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of history and psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: This course aims to offer some of the interpretative criteria of Cultural Anthropology, concerning the notion of "person", "individual", "common man". Learning goals will address some of the key keywords of cultural anthropology ("culture", "cultural diversity", "identity / otherness", etc.) that will be elaborated in their conceptual development to the latest meanings. The course also aims to provide critical tools for understanding a complex and constantly transforming reality such as that of multicultural society, with particular reference to the socio-sanitary field. In relation to the monographic part of the course, the aim is to develop an interplay between the natural sciences and the human sciences.
Examination methods: Examination can take place in oral or written form, depending on the number of students enrolled in each exam session, or on particular requests of individual students. Below 15-20 students the exam will be oral, with books available for consultation. The written exam will have open questions about topics illustrated in the books, and about links with contents explained during the lessons.
Assessment criteria: The ability to reflect and to elaborate proposed content will be evaluated, besides the ability to connect and integrate the topics discussed during the lectures with those illustrated in the books.
Course unit contents: Cultural anthropology will be presented in the relationship between its spontaneous dimension - the recognition of the humanity of the Other - and the development of the theoretical and methodological apparatus on a disciplinary level.
Some of the main key words of cultural anthropology such as "culture", "cultural diversity", "ethnicity", "race", "identity / otherness", female / male genre "will be explored.
There will also be some contextual issues regarding the recognition of cultural diversity.
