Syllabus
Prerequisites: None
Target skills and knowledge: Ability to contextualize work activities in the current political and socio-economic scenario and clearly identify the contribution of psychology in improving the place, activities and social conditions of work.
Examination methods: Written exam, with open and closed questions.

Some questions will test notional knowledge (multiple choice), others questions will require a personal comment on a theory/research and/or an exercise on research methodologies in psychology of work.

The exam will include the mandatory text INTRODUCTION TO WORK PSYCHOLOGY and a book chosen among those indicated.
Assessment criteria: The knowledge acquired in the lessons and/or through the study texts will be evaluated through open and closed questions. The knowledge required will highlight the student's ability to learn the main scientific theories in the sector, to express critical judgments on theories/research examined, to use the typical methods of occupational psychology, and to plan research in the sector.
Course unit contents: - 1 - INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY OF WORK AND ORGANIZATIONS
Current contexts and future scenarios for work psychology.
Historical outline and theories of organizations: from the industrial revolution to the knowledge society; companies and processes of globalization; new technologies, economic systems, work and welfare; the evolution of work in society; promises and threats of the 4.0

- 2 - METHODS OF RESEARCH AND WORK OF THE PSYCHOLOGIST IN THE ORGANIZATIONS
The research of psychology on human activities and social practices in work. Research methods and techniques of elicitation and knowledge organization: focus groups, brainstorming, affinity diagrams, questionnaires, interviews.

- 3 - SAFETY AND ERGONOMICS
The contribution of psychology to safety at work. Theories on performance and human error in organizations. Professional accidents and types of errors. Error prevention and its management. Ergonomics and interaction with machines: affordance, constraints, mapping, transparency and other fundamental concepts. Technological innovation and impact on work. Video analysis and its use in the study of behaviors in the workplace.

- 4-CONSUMER PSYCHOLOGY; MARKETING AND COMUNICATION
External communication; persuasion and traditional methods of advertising and marketing; Web and SN marketing; gamification and persuasive technologies; Neuromarketing. Eye tracking and other innovative methods for studying marketing and communication in organizations.

- 5 - PSYCHOPATHOLOGIES AND WORKPLACE
Abnormal and counterproductive behaviors, stress (including techno stress), bullying, burn-out, aggression and violence, workaholism, mental and emotional fatigue and cognitive load. Stress measurement methods: physiological measures (exercise).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course includes:
- active participation of attending students in the lessons and online
- short public presentations of personal research and group work
- demonstrations and exercises in the classroom and in the laboratory (limited number) of tools and techniques for research and work in the field of occupational psychology and organizations

Slides, films, teaching materials distributed in class (and on-line on university channels) are integrative and NOT mandatory compared to textbooks suggested for both attending and non-attending students.
