Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology and psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: To provide the student with information and techniques useful to:
- learn the patient clinical evaluation and the perioperative risk determination, also by the development of an interdisciplinary approach to the patient;
- learn how to provide adequate information to the patient, based on the actual scientific knowledge, to get the informed consent by the patient;
- have knowledge of the techniques for the pain and anxiety control during the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic radiologic procedures;
- have knowledge of the more frequent medical emergencies in radiology and have the skill to perform the actual practice of BLS-D;
- evaluate the scientific litterature and to apply the research results to the clinical setting.
Examination methods: Front lessons with the aid of multimedial techniques (slides, movies, practical demonstrations on mannequins, etc.) and practical demonstrations.
Assessment criteria: Written examination on multiple choice questions.
Oral examination upon student's request.
Course unit contents: The "Primo Soccorso" teaching's main aim is to provide the students the knowledge useful to perform an effective perioperative patient evaluation, to plan an effective perioperative treatment of anxiety and pain, to prevent the medical emergencies most frequent in the radiologic setting, to treat emergencies by BLS-D.
Full program:
1)Introduction and definition of specific definitions: anaesthesia, analgesia, general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia, local anaesthesia, Intensive Care.
2)The perioperative evaluation of patient and their risk.
3)Information to the patient and the informed consent.
4)Anxiety and pain during radiological procedures: evaluation of the patient's anxiety, iatrosedation, hypnosis, pharmacological anxiolysis.
5)The venipuncture and the patient monitoring in radiology.
6)The most common medical emergencies in radiology; Reactions to contrast media, allergic reactions, anaphylactic shock, prention and treatment.
7)The BLS-D.
8)Local anaesthesia and anaesthetics. The perioperative pain.
9) Patient positioning problems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lesson with the use of slides, movies, Internet;
skill practice on mannequine and other simulation scenarios;
Additional notes about suggested reading: It is essential to pay attention to the lessons, because most of the information needed for the examination will be given during the lessons.
