Prerequisites: No prerequisites
Target skills and knowledge: Students will learn fundamentals of business administration. Particularly, students will develop the ability a) to analyze the basic aspects of economic and financial performance of a company, b) to determine production costs and use them to make short-run decisions, and c) to map the main activities carried out in a company, functional areas and business processes.
Examination methods: Written exam with exercises and questions that are focused on assessing students' ability to analyse the basic aspects of the economic and financial performance of a company as well as to determine production costs.
Assessment criteria: Assessment will be based on students' understanding of the proposed concepts, models and methods as well as on his/her ability to apply them in an autonomous and conscious manner.
Course unit contents: Financial accounting. Basic concepts of financial accounting: balance sheet and income statement. Analysis of economic and financial performance indicators.
Cost accounting. Cost terms, concepts and classifications. Full costing and direct costing. Cost-volume-profit analysis. Short-run decision analysis: differential costs and revenues.
Organizational functions: R&D function and new product development process; operations management; management accounting process; information systems
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures. Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended for the understanding of the proposed concepts, models and methods as well as for the development of the ability to apply them in an autonomous and conscious manner.
