Prerequisites: You are expected to have already reached a B1 level in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide you with the main patterns of legal English which are needed to both understand and produce legal discourse, and it will help you improve your skills towards reaching a B1+/B2 level. By the end of the course, you will master legal terminology in English, you will have consolidated your ability to understand legal texts, and you will have gained competence in academic/legal writing.
Examination methods: A written test (vocabulary exercises and academic/legal writing).
Assessment criteria: You will be assessed on your knowledge of the course contents and of legal terminology, as well as on your ability to apply this knowledge to write well organised academic/legal texts using a range of lexico-grammatical patterns.
Course unit contents: Various areas of English law will be covered in class, e.g. sources and divisions of law, legal professions, contract law, etc. Readings and audio-visual materials will be used to encourage in-class discussion.
The programme is the same for attenders and non-attenders, but it is highly recommended that you come to class regularly.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Teacher-fronted lessons and pair/group work. In class you will be involved in reading/listening comprehension and writing/speaking activities, and you will be expected to participate actively.
The course is held in English.

3. your notes
4. a monolingual dictionary of law (The Oxford Dictionary of Law)
