Syllabus
Prerequisites: The necessary pre-requisite for the exploitation of the knowledge that will be acquired during the course is a good preparation of contemporary Italian history with references to the international scene.

Target skills and knowledge: Preparation for a sexed and intersectional reading of the social reality and of the policies implemented to reduce gender discrimination.
Deconstruction of the universal neutral as an interpretative paradigm of social relations
Assumption of a Critical perspective on the social roles and on cultural stereotypes.
Examination methods: The exam will consist of two parts:
1. presentation in class of a chosen topic
2. written exam (open questions)

The exam can be held in Italian or in English
Assessment criteria: 1. attendance at lessons and participation to the debate
 
2. originality in the choice of topics for the presentation and capacity of involving the other students in the debate

3. Use of a scientific and proper language for the written test
Course unit contents: 1) the concept of citizenship of rights starting from the formulation of T. H. Marshall;
2) Different chronologies of obtaining rights by women and men in Italy and in the world; legislative systems and effectiveness
3) transnational feminist / feminist theories
4) treaties, institutions of equality bodies in Italy and in the world according to the Sustainable Development goals 2030
5) gender and the city/ gender perspective in climate change
6) the representation of bodies, the role of the media and the stereotypes of the language
7) violence, homophobia, LGBTQI rights
8) reproductive rights
9) The gender of labor policies and care work
10) gender in political parties / gender in policies
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: All the lessons are open to the debate according also to specific requests the students may have.

During the lessons material and information about the topic discussed in class will be uploaded in the Moodle platform, as well as some readings and papers that may be helpful for choosing the topic of the presentation in class (15 minutes, using slides or other material). The presentations can also be intende as a group work (max 3 people).

A questionnaire on the evaluation of teaching open questions will be given to students and students in the middle and at the end of the course
Additional notes about suggested reading: The material uploaded in the moodle platform will be useful for the preparation for the final exam.
