Syllabus
Prerequisites: Accurate knowledge natomy and physiology of female and male genital apparatus.
Target skills and knowledge: Skill in communicating using adequate technical language.
Knowledge on productive and reproductive cycles in farm animals, and their main problems.
Knowledges about reproductive technologies in farm animals.
Ability to analize reproductive problems.
Examination methods: Oral
Assessment criteria: Students’ knowledge will be evaluated considering both specific definitions given during the course but also by analyzing their capacity of applying the acquired knowledge to animal reproduction problem solving.
Course unit contents: Productive and reproductive cycles.
Zootechnical indexes and reproduction.
Artificial Insemination techniques in farm animals.
Semen collection, evaluation and cryopreservation.
Synchronization of Reproductive Cycles.
Superovulation and embryo transfer.
Parturitiun and puerperium.
Abortion.
Most common reproductive problems,
Infectious diseases and reproduction.
Most common neonatal problems
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Theoretical lessons in classroms and practice on farm and in classified rooms (microscopy and necropsy).
Additional notes about suggested reading: Powerpoint presentations used during the lessons are given to the students during the course. This material could be useful to support the use of textbook studying for the exam.
