Prerequisites:

The student is supposed to know the following subjects from the highschool.
Equations and inequalities, both linear and quadratic.
Equations of lines, parabolas and circles in the plane.
Trigonometry; main relations.
Properties of powers and logarithms. 
Target skills and knowledge:

The course intends to provide the students with notions and techniques of basic calculus, aimed to the study of functions; to the computations of areas by integrals; to the solution of concrete problems, using derivatives; to the solution of linear systems with Gauss method; to the solution of problems using differential equations. 
Examination methods:

Written test, based on the solution of standard exercises, like those made in the classroom. 
Assessment criteria:

The grade is based on the exercises of the written test. The score and the evaluation of each exercise are explained to the students in details. 
Course unit contents:

1° credit: Definition of function. Real variable. Elementary functions. Inverse function. Limits of real functions. Operations on limits. Some special limits. Sequences and their limits.
2° credit: Continuity. Derivatives: the meaning in geometry and in physics. Derivative of product, quotient and composition of functions.
3° credit: Theorems of differential calculus. Relative maxima and minima. Problems of related velocities. Problems of max/min. L' Hopital's rule.
4° credit: Study of a function. Differential. Regression line (sketch).
5° credit: Indefinite integral. Integration by parts and by substitution, integration of some rational functions. The concept of definite integral.
6° credit: Fundamental theorem of calculus. Computation of areas. Improper integrals. Examples from
physics.
7° credit: Matrices. Column vectors. Product of matrices. Solution of linear systems. Gauss method.
8° credit: General notions on Differential Equations. First order differential equations. Various applications. Increase of a population. Separable differential equations.

Besides the suggested books, a file concerned with credit no. 7, and many tests assigned during the past years are at disposal of the students.
