Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in Geography
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to explore the theme of landscape, also in relation to the issue of heritage and of tourism practices.
In a constant balance between theoretical reflection and analysis of case studies, the course will also provide students with some tools of intervention in land management practices, participation, awareness raising, promotion of landscape as heritage, tourism.
Examination methods: The final exam will be oral.
It will be possible to replace a part of the program with a report related to the activities proposed during the lessons.
Assessment criteria: Assesment will be based on the knowledge of the proposed contents, the capacity to develop connections and insights, the competence to apply to concrete cases the general issues and the theoretical reflections.
Course unit contents: Introduction to the landscape concept ; the relationship between population and landscape and the attributions of value; the European Landscape Convention and the question of democratization; the landscapes of the past and the evaluation of the changes; landscape Observatories; landscape as heritage; Faro Convention; the UNESCO heritage; landscape and tourism: resources and impacts; sustainable tourism
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists of lectures, classroom training or training through the Moodle platform, thematic seminars, field-works. The course aims to encourage the active participation of students.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The slides of the lessons will be available for the students.
The reference bibliography will be provided at the beginning of the lessons; students will have the possibility to choose among different texts.
