Prerequisites: Attendance of the course requires basic knowledge related to the discursive turn in
the Social Sciences and in Clinical Psychology
Target skills and knowledge: The aims of the course are the following:
1. To offer to the students an historical and cultural overview of the elements that contributed to the construction of our way of understanding and interpreting the body.
2. To make available to the student the clinical experience related to the implementation
of interventions on the theme: "Body, an idea that can make you feel bad" in various
operational contexts.
3. To put students in the condition of hypothesizing or planning a psychological intervention about the presented subjects in the clinical and social field.

In preparation to this, students can get in touch with:
- various professional psychologists working in public and private contexts
of the territory,
- psychotherapists
- people who have completed their psychotherapy path.
Examination methods: The exam is written (open questions of a conceptual nature, lasting two hours) and the mark can not be implemented.
It is possible to differentiate the examination protocol between students attending and not attending, during the first exam session after the lecture period. The exam can also be taken in English (part of the bibliography can be found in English).
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the answers to the open questions will be based on three criteria:
1) Preparation, completeness of the response and punctuality of the reference to the study materials
2) Competence, clarity and relevance of the answer
3) Skill of personal re-elaboration by combining the various knowledge acquired during the course
Course unit contents: Some proposed contents:
1. The body in the West, history and culture.
2. The process of medicalization of bodies.
3. Phenomenology of the body: the body of presence.
4. The bodies in symbolic interaction.
Some clinical themes will be investigated through the presentation of researches and examples of possible interventions, starting from the konwledge of transversal constructs, for example the construct of the "semiotic body".

Among others professors, Proffs Alessandro Salvini and Antonio Iudici will be invited to speak.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course includes an alternation between theoretical and operational parts.
Clinical situations and testimonies from experts in the field will be proposed.
Students will be invited to take part in the lessons in an active and critical way, also through presentations or thematic analyses .
In addition to the lessons, which will be set up interactively and which will provide for the use of audio and video materials, during the course will be proposed specific activities, as an example: laboratories of body movement, group experiences and movies commentaries.
