Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in general and developmental psychology are required.
Target skills and knowledge: Definitions of Disability, Diversity and Vulnerability.
Recent conceptual approaches to the study of disability.
Inserting, integrating and including: conceptual and applied implications.
The assessment, rehabilitation and inclusion of individuals with temporary or chronic disabling conditions.
Procedures and supports fostering school and social inclusion.
Examination methods: One hour written examination with open questions
Assessment criteria: Knowledge of the main topics included in the course.
Use of appropriate and specific language
Knowledge of the main procedures in the assessment and intervention as suggested by the course
Course unit contents: Dimensions and tools for the assessment of disabilities.
Executive skills, problem solving and social skills, self-determination.
Family, quality of life and disability.
Teachers, peers, parents and professionals: their role in providing supports.
From rehabilitation to inclusion: approaches, dimensions and goals.
Psychological resources and future planning in complex situations.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Besides analysis of the main topics, videos, open discussions, examples and case studies will be provided to students attending the course.
