Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of present construction materials (insulation and coatings materials, wood, steel, concrete, etc.) and architectural, structural building elements.
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide the knowledge necessary to handle the problem about fire prevention both for existing and new buildings. The approaches to solving problems will be provided in order to achieve the following goals: life, goods and environment safeguarding, learning how to use and manage fire-fighting strategies in different contexts.
Assessment criteria: The candidate's evaluation will be based checking the level of preparation achieved about the topics outlined during the course as well as about the ability to approach methodologically real examples.
Course unit contents: The course contents are as follows:
A) fire prevention objectives and foundations;
B) fire physics and chemistry;
C) technical standards and fire prevention standards and application;
E) technologies and systems for active protection;
F) general legislation and EU directives;
G) fire prevention procedures;
H) fire safety in the workplace;
I) risk assessment and equivalent security measures;
L) engineering approach to fire safety;
M) fire safety management system (SGSA);
N) activities about risk of major accident;
O) practical exercises and training visits with activities subject to fire prevention controls;
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lessons followed by one or more exercises, even by groups, where the lessons learned will be put in practice.
