Syllabus

Target skills and knowledge: The course allows the acquisition of the competences and skills listed below
- understand and operate in heterogeneous organizational contexts
- understand and analyze Strategies and business model of manufacturing companies
- understand and analyze the main organizational department
- assess and design business performance management systems
- map and assess the improvement processes.
Examination methods: A written examination (50%) and a group assignment (50%)
The written examination is organized in 10 open-ended questions to assess:
1. knowledge of the main theoretical concepts about company strategy, business models, organizational department and continuous improvement
2. clarity and ability to synthesize managerial issues
3. ability of reasoning

The group assignment require the study of a real company issue to prove the capability below
1. Critical Originality in the study of a real organizational context
2. Use of the theoretical knowledge to solve a real managerial issue.
Assessment criteria: The criteria are:
- knowledge of the contents
- clarity and ability to synthesize
- - ability of presentation and reasoning

Course unit contents: 1. The company's strategy and business models
2. Business Performance management
3. Organisational functions and managerial processes
a. Marketing and sales: Strategies and industrial marketing mix
b. Research and Development: the main phases and the new products development
c. Operational management: types of production systems and operational processes
4. Continuous improvement: from the Quality Management Lean management
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Students are stimulated to take active part in class discussion, with video, case studies.
During the course students receive some assigments to be developed in small groups. The results will be presented by the groups
