The student will assess the safety of existing structures and propose appropriate intervention strategies for reinforced concrete, masonry and steel structures. |

The evaluation of the preparation of the student will be based on an understanding of the arguments, on the acquisition of concepts and methodologies proposed and the ability to apply them in an autonomous and conscious way. |
Course unit contents:

Introduction and basic concepts of seismic engineering. Computation of the seismic action. Seismic damage in existing reinforced concrete, masonry and steel structures. Collapse mechanisms in existing reinforced concrete, masonry and steel structures. Deterioration of materials and structural elements. Design rules for existing structures. Confidence factors. In situ and laboratory tests for existing reinforced concrete, masonry and steel structures. Scaffolding and temporary structures. Interventions on precast and cast-in-place reinforced concrete, masonry and steel structures. Use of composite materials for structural strengthening. Management of existing structures and infrastructures. Examples. |
