Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students should be familiar with fundamentals of traffic flow theory and preliminary concepts of transportation systems modeling
Pre-requirements: none.
Target skills and knowledge: "Transportation Engineering Laboratory" is an in-depth course (operational support) of the main subjects of Transportation Engineering. The course is aimed at students of Civil Engineering Master Degree Course (Transportation syllabus), with the aim to introduce the use of tools for the quantitative analysis in planning, functional design and management of transportation systems.
Specifically the course will provide insight regarding tools, software and analysis methods of transportation systems engineering with particular consideration to the impact of their operational use.
Examination methods: Oral test.
Assessment criteria: Evaluation of student's ability to use traffic simulation tools in transportation analysis.
Course unit contents: 1)Transportation systems analysis tools
•Some reminders of fundamental variables, quantitative analysis methods and modeling of transportation engineering.
•Software implementing methods and models of transportation systems engineering:
-Definitions
-Application contexts and functional classification
-Criteria for selecting the appropriate type of tool in relation to the analytical context
-Critical issues related to the use
•Presentation of some software for traffic analysis and practical exercises.

2)Road traffic Monitoring
•Measurement of traffic stream variables: methods and tools.
•Design of traffic surveys in different analytical contexts.

3)Estimation of travel demand
