Syllabus
Prerequisites: - Good knowledge of the italian Language (reading and understanding skills)
- Knowledge of the principal institutes of Private Law (expecially Family Law, Contract Law, Tort Law)
Target skills and knowledge: By the end of the course students are expected to understand the development of European private law;
- Gain knowledge of the main areas of private law involved by the armonization process;
- ability to deal with private law problems in the light of EU legislation;
- ability to evaluate private law disputes in comparative and European perspective
Examination methods: Oral speech. At the end of the course students will be involved in Presentation and discussion of legal materials and papers produced during the class on a previously agreed topic.

Presentations are usually made orally to the class on a prepared topic and may include the use of presentation aids such as PowerPoint, handouts

2. Sources of European Private Law
3. Models of integretion: Harmonization, uniformation, unification of Law;
4. Language and Rules: towards a common Language for Europe;
5. Uniformation coming from EU Institutions: EUregulations and Directives; EU Court of Justice decisions;
6. Harmonization of Family Law: EU Regulation n.1347/2000/CE (c.d. Bruxelles II) e 2201/2003/CE (c.d. Bruxelles II bis), e n.1259/2010/UE.
6 bis Data Protection in the EU:Regulation (EU) 2016/679 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data.
7. Harmonization coming from Academic studies: the Commission on European Family Law;
8. Harmonization of Tort Law: the European Group on Tort Law;
9. The process of Harmonization and uniformation of Contract Law
10. EU Communications on Contract Law : the Aquis communautaire and the Action Plan for a Common frame of reference;
11. Academic Groups: lo Study Group on a European civil code and the Acquis Group;
12. The “Principles of European contract law” (PECL), Acquis Principles and “Draft Common frame of reference” (DCFR): a comparison among italian law;
13. The Feasibility Study on a European Contract Law for Consumers and Businesses;
14. Proposal for a regulation on a Common European Sales Law
