Syllabus
Prerequisites: No prior knowledge is required.
Target skills and knowledge: The aim of the course is to arouse students' interest by showing them how the study of the sociology of education can constitute an important knowledge able to explain, understand and guide educational policies. In this sense, the acquisition of basic concepts of the sociology of education becomes fundamental; the demonstration of knowing how to analyze and interpret the facts related to the dimension of socialization, with particular attention to specific problems detected in some educational and training contexts
Examination methods: There will be a written exam of the maximum duration of 80 minutes, consisting of 2 open questions on the manual (Text A1) and 2 open questions on the second manual (Text A2) aimed at verifying the acquisition of basic knowledge of sociology; and in 1 open question on the text of your choice (Text B) aimed at evaluating the acquisition of useful tools for analyzing and interpreting specific social facts related to the complexity of education
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the exam will take place in thirtieths and will take particular account of four levels of performance:
● articulation of logical-argumentative skills, ie the relevance of the answers with respect to the questions (35%);
● ability to correctly make a connection between theories and empirical reality (35%)
● personal re-elaboration of content (30%)
Course unit contents: The course aims to provide students with the theoretical tools necessary to analyze, through a sociological approach, the study and evolution of society with particular reference to the roles and functions of education and socialization systems. Furthermore, attention will be paid to the problems related to the definition of the teaching profession related to the current need for an increasingly integrated and interdisciplinary teaching, and in the light of social changes.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Teaching is offered through lectures conducted in the presence of the teacher with the use of support devices (video materials, documentation ...). The use of slides is not foreseen. There are also group practical exercises carried out in a collaborative form with individual contributions.
